Margaret Adamic began her training at the age of 11. She was an overweight kid who had lost weight and was looking for a way to maintain her weight. A martial arts school was within walking distance from her house and she had an interest in learning the cool moves she saw on TV, so she decided to give it a try. The fact that it took her 4 months to get the courage to enter the dojo only toughened her resolve to learn once she actually walked in the door. By good fortune, the school taught American Karate, so she learned a lot of everything especially loving the sparring and the grappling.
Since achieving her first Black belt in American Karate, she has earned Black belts in Freestyle Fighting and in the Gene LeBell & Gokor Chivichyan System of MMA Fighting. She is proud to be the first woman representing Gene and Gokor’s system. She also holds rank in Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Capoeira and is currently continuing her education in Judo and American Kickboxing. In addition to her martial arts education, she continues to seek educational opportunities to better herself as a teacher and communicator, bringing back everything she learns to her students.
Through her tutelage, she has produced over 25 World Champions as well as winning professional and amateur MMA fighters. She herself now just competes for fun. It has been her experience that training for competition takes away from a teacher’s ability to give one hundred percent to their students.
Over the years, she has trained with and under such prestigious names in the martial arts community as Gene LeBell, Gokor Chivichyan, Manvel Gamburyan, Karo Parisyan, Kathy Long, Benny “The Jet” Urquidez, Joe Lewis, Bill “Superfoot” Wallace, Sevak Mitchiyan, and Karen Darbedian to name a few.
She is also an NRA certified instructor (pistol, rifle, shotgun, home protection), certified Lean & Fit Instructor and was awarded the Presidential Sports Award in 1997. She was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2008 and in 2011 was inducted in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in the Hall of Heroes.
