YOUTH MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAMS:
Our youth programs are not just another after-school activity. Soccer, baseball, football, basketball are all great activities for children, but our programs are about personal development through a physical discipline. Martial Arts is not a team sport. The only person that you are competing with is “yourself.” Some students are in shape, while others are overweight. Some come for self defense or fitness, and others for fun. Each person is treated as an equal, and is trained to the best of their own ability and potential.
Our instructors are there to guide, instruct, and motivate you to be the best that you can be. Our classes focus a child’s attention, thus improving his or her ability to learn. Learning builds a sense of accomplishment and with each new accomplishment, a student’s self-confidence grows. Confidence is the first step in the empowerment of a person’s physical and mental abilities.
Once we begin to develop a student’s self confidence, we are then able to instill the values of respect, courtesy, honesty, perseverance, and integrity that are the foundations of martial arts.
Furthermore, your child will develop perseverance, which is a non-quitting spirit to over come life’s obstacles. Instilling a non-quitting spirit helps a child overcome challenges to succeed in the face of adversity, and to be a goal setter, and a goal getter.
These combined physical and character foundations in our programs help children excel in their academic school studies, sports, and social endeavors. It ensures that they will have the confidence in themselves and the character to make the right decisions when confronted with negative peer pressure. They will be leaders not followers.
American Karate: Students learn martial arts techniques and self-defense techniques as tools for physical and mental discipline. Our instructors are dedicated to helping every child develop their martial arts expertise, their physical fitness, their self-defense skills and most importantly their life skills with our fun and action packed classes. This program has a complete belt system, as well as a unique stripe system to reward their accomplishments.
Bo (Staff): With a bo, students learn to defend themselves with the aid of a long wooden stick. Students learn basic bo katas (preset movements) to familiarize themselves with the weapon and what it can do. These are the only katas we teach in any class. From there, students learn to use the bo in sparring with their karate and grappling techniques.
Sticks (Escrima): What happens if your bo breaks in half? Or you have a club, cane, walking stick or knife? Would you be able to defend yourself? What would happen if someone took it from you? Students learn blocks, strikes, disarming techniques and defensive techniques with the sticks and learn how to defend themselves against someone who has sticks.
Lil’ Dragons (ages 3 to 5): The Lil’ Dragon program is a detailed curriculum that focuses on improving preschool-age children’s basic motor and listening skills. These skills will help them enter society with a more confident and enthusiastic outlook. They will become better students at school, better listeners at home and more ambitious towards the future. We believe the time between the ages of 3 and 5 are the most important years of a child’s development. Our program will enhance positive development in a fun and motivating way.
In the Lil’ Dragon classes, your child will be exposed to positive social interaction. They will learn how to work with others and follow directions from their instructors. Our Lil’ Dragon instructors are good role models who are trained specifically to work with preschool-age children.
The 8 Lil’ Dragon skill requirements are composed of physical and mental benefits. Following are the skills with the benefits from participating in the Lil’ Dragon classes:
Skill #1: FOCUS – This skill will help your child’s aim, listening skills and reaction skills. They will excel faster in any physical activities. Your child will also become a better listener and a more focused student in school.
Skill #2: TEAMWORK – Teamwork is necessary for any young child to develop. The more confident your child is and willing to work with others, the more he or she will accomplish. Your child will develop character, which will help him or her make new friends and become a better leader in life.
Skill #3: CONTROL – Having control means making good decisions. Whether your child is handling a pet or handling a problem, he or she will learn to make the right decisions. Control builds confidence.
Skill #4: BALANCE – This skill is crucial to develop at an early age. Your child is beginning to participate in many physical activities that are challenging, like riding a two-wheel bicycle. Your child will develop good balance and better posture.
Skill #5: MEMORY – Developing a good memory is exercise for your child’s brain. The sooner your child exercises, the smarter he or she will become. Our drills are constantly helping your child think and make smart decisions.
Skill #6: DISCIPLINE – Our instructors use the Lil’ Dragon drills to help create the vision that discipline is fun and rewarding. Your child will take pride in doing the right thing. Your child will also follow directions better.
Skill #7: FITNESS – It is important for children to understand the importance of being healthy and physically fit. If your child does not burn off excess energy exercising, how will he or she burn off all of that energy?
Skill #8: COORDINATION – Your child will learn left from right. They will become better physical participants in sports and activities. The better coordination your child has, the fewer injuries your child will sustain.
In our Lil’ Dragon classes, we make learning fun and educational. Our goal is to help your preschooler be the best they can be at everything they put their minds to. Our motto is: “Lil’ Dragons today, leaders tomorrow.”
